I agree. Whether you call him- a WR or just an offensive player- his overall production comparatively is below average. At least for a 1st round pick.
He's not a bust by any means. He's been a steady contributor for four years. But he's contributed below his draft status. Probably a good 50 overall picks below. He flashes but lacks consistency. To me he had (barely) earned having his 5th year option picked up this year. I'd have extended Ogletree, their other 2013 1st round pick, way before Austin.
Like a lot of players he can probably benefit from McVay and his staff. I hope he does. He may not have hit his ceiling yet as a player. But if his year 5 only follows years 1-4 I'd cut bait next off-season.
