But, that call in the last 2 minutes made no sense. It was no better than 50/50 that the Niners succeed to make a 1st down whether running or passing in that super-compressed part of the field. If they ran, then the clock runs, and no matter if they don't make the first down, more time is taken off the clock and KC is forced to use one of their 2 time outs. Instead, by an incomplete pass, the Niners essentially gave KC a 3rd time out, and it wound up taking that plus the other 2 time outs for KC to win. If they had had only 1 time to work with, KC likely would have had to settle for a FG and a tie. That second time out is what bought them the ability to run one more play that resulted in the game winning TD, before they would be forced to kick a FG.
Really, really bad call strategically. Unwisely aggressive.
Rock, the Chiefs did settle for the tying FG in regulation. The game winning TD was in OT.
Having said that I agree the Niners made a tactical mistake not running on that 3rd down play. Give the ball to CM and milk the clock even if you do not score. But OTOH I can understand Shanahan to go for the possible kill shot right there. No matter what a tough decision and as was said the Niners did not lose the game on that decision.
As far as Purdy goes: IMHO he is a clear system QB created by Shanahans play calling plus a stacked roster on O and D. So much talent around him with a top 5 o-line to boot.
I agree with those that at last half of the starting QBs in the league would do better than him under the current conditions in SF.
I also believe that Purdy would be very pedestrian if you put him on another team with less talent. The Chiefs certainly do not win this game if Purdy was their QB.
Go RAms!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
