I bolded the stuff that I did to separate my point from the discussions of scheme. I was only pointning out some character attributes of Morris that shouldn't be overlooked - regardless how we view his scheme.
As far as scheme goes, I'd like to see more aggression, disruption, with less time for quarterbacks to sit back and wait for plays to come open. I'd like to suffer fewer dink-and-dunk time-consuming drives while CB's play deep. It's like death by a thousand paper cuts to watch. But to be successful, thatstyle of play begins with an effective pass rush. And that begins with guys on the edges messing up the QB's sense of timing, forcing bad throws or getting sacks or hits at the release.
We're probably in agreement there - but I'll give Morris a pass on these counts: He didn't have what he needed for personnel on the edge to make the D work last year. Case in point: When Von Miller showed up, all-of-a-sudden Morris was hailed on this board for finally coming around - doing things our way. And as has been pointed out before, many times, it gets murky when trying to understand how much of Morris's scheme is McVay's. And my original point - any number of DC's, including some of Morris's predecessors, might well have lost the D unit last year. Morris didn't.
Thanks for your post and the dialogue.
