Is it really about replacing Jalen with Kobe?
That won't happen. Or is it about how good will the defensive backfield be in 2023 as opposed to last year?
To my eyes Ramsey pulled a lot of unfair criticism last year because of weak safety play behind him. He was also asked to do much - which for the most part he did, but it stretched him thin at times.
This year our safety play should be stronger with Fuller's recovery and Yeast's anticipated growth. As to the other two corners besides Kobe (let's face it - we'll be playing 5 DB's the majority of the time) Durant might have a stronger cast around him than Ramsey did last year, less of the load to carry than Jalen did, and hopefully enough of a pass rush to help things out. Any kind of a rush will make all our DB's look better.
We may get a few picks from Durant and Tomlinson that we weren't getting last year. If we turn the ball over to an offense that can actually score, that will help.
It will be interesting, too, to see whether Jones can drop back into coverage effectively.
There's so much more to look at with adjustments to Jalen's departure than whether Kobe will "replace" him.
