I’m not trying to subtract Keenum’s contribution. If you felt that’s what I’m saying, there is a misunderstanding. I realize he is making a substantial contribution. At the risk of oversimplification, I suggest that there are three levels of QB performance: positive, neutral, and negative. Positive – The QB impacts the game in a positive way and often is a substantial reason WHY the teamby dzrams - RamsFootballFans.com
I think the idea of Keenum is to give you just enough to win. Or more accurately, he’s to do enough so as not to be the reason they lose. But even with his better performance these last three games, the offense is not playing well. I have no confidence they would have won Sunday without Austin’s huge punt return. I’m not even that confident that they would have went on an extended drive and gby dzrams - RamsFootballFans.com
Winning and Case getting it done can be separated. When they win 9-3, it’s a win but not necessarily a case of Case getting it done. The team is smart enough to know when it’s the D that is the reason for the win. They are also smart enough to know that they are not winning because of the QB and that they are ranked near dead last on offense. I know 43, I remember. We had a few rounds on this subject. Lol. Cook was inconsistent and had no TDs but he wasn’t as bad as Rams fans asserted. In 12 starts last year with historically bad QB play, he had nearly 500 receiving yards. You don’t just snap your fingers and replace that. He was one of the Rams most productive TE’s of all time even with his limitations. I still have high expeby dzrams - RamsFootballFans.com
He did dip versus Arizona but they have graded him at below average every other game before that too. Part of the reason for that I believe is because he has an uncanny knack for messing up at the wrong moment. A lot of his infractions happen at very crucial moments and seemingly directly affect the scoreboard. For example, a holding penalty that takes them out of FG range or wipes out a bigby dzrams - RamsFootballFans.com
Disappointment at this stage only means there were unrealistic expectations. I was one of the only ones who posted that the TE position may take a step backwards this year because we cut Cook. Don’t get me wrong, I wanted him cut. But I didn’t expect a rookie to come in and immediately replace his production no matter how inconsistent he was. The reality is, MOST rookies are not immediateby dzrams - RamsFootballFans.com
Really? See I thought the norm in the NFL for a 4th round pick is to not have much production, if any, in their first year. It seems most forget the stat that says that 4th round picks only have a 10-15% chance of becoming a starter period, let alone a productive starter in their first year. This is another case of unrealistic expectations.by dzrams - RamsFootballFans.com
QuoteRams43 QuoteSaguaro That's comprehensive, and sounds right to me. I certainly don't agree about everyone on the list. Obviously, a player chosen in the 1st round or even high in the 1st round has to achieve at a VERY high level in order to be a "steal" at that point. Donald would qualify, but I'm not sure if any others would, except maybe Quinn. My responses. Keenum - Noby dzrams - RamsFootballFans.com
Some of the penalties being iffy is no comfort when he is among the league leaders in penalties every year since being drafted. It means he has his fair share of legit penalties too. Reputations get established with real infractions. Also, the 14 total pressures is a problem. And so is the sack fumble he gave up the other day. QuoteRams43 QuotePHDram its pretty hard to make the argument that either is better given that goff hasnt actually taken a snap in the regular season. if goff comes in and lights it up then all of this "controversy" goes away and the narrative then becomes how smart the rams were for letting goff sit, watch and get acclimated to the nfl. QuoteLMU93 As long as Fisher is the coach they will want to lead with defense. Combine that with fact that they have their QB, RB, and an OL who's entirely under contract through 2017 and in most cases 2018 with a defense that has a couple 30+ DL and a few pending free agents (Ogletree, Johnson, McDonald, Easley) and I think they'll lean defense next spring. 24th in yards. 9th in points. 8th if you take out the points the offense has given up. The yards and points allowed rankings are very close to what we ended with last year. IMO, points allowed is the ultimate measure of the D just like points scored is the ultimate measure of an offense. QuoteRams43 Just love your reports, Alyo. Keep 'em coming, man. Well, the 24 hour rule has run out, so I'm just gonna say it. I love the wins as much as anyone, believe me. QuoteArizonaRamFan Quotezn NOW people are worried that Keenum will start all season? No, I'm worried that Goff WILL NOT start all season. There's a subtle but meaningful difference. I would be happy as a clam that Keenum is playing to his potential, if we weren't watching next year's draft capital riding the pine this year. Really? Why? The strip fumble happened which led to points for them. The 2 penalties hurt badly too. You don't get passes on ticky tack calls when your reputation is earned. It seems to me he's having decent games overall with one or two critical mistakes which often come at the wrong moment and directly affect the scoreboard. That makes him a liability IMO.by dzrams - RamsFootballFans.com
When he ran that route from the backfield and made that one-handed catch, I was thinking, they've got to send him out as a pass catching option much more often. He ran that route with speed and no LB can cover that.by dzrams - RamsFootballFans.com

QuoteBC Ramsfan QuoteSaguaro Palmer counters this with quick drops and throws, often to Fitzgerald. The Rams fall right into this by playing soft coverage. Fisher's Rams have generally done well against division opponents. And every game for the last few years against Seattle and Arizona have been big games.
