Well, the 24 hour rule has run out, so I'm just gonna say it.
I love the wins as much as anyone, believe me. But our sputtering O is our Achilles heel and I just don't know how much longer we can play Russian Roulette with it. Not if we have playoff aspirations, that is.
As Alyo said, sometimes you just have to be able to run the ball to close out a tight game for the win. We can't do that. Not yet, anyway.
We can't keep losing TOP by 6 minutes every week, either.
How is it possible for a team with Todd Gurley at RB and an OL of alleged road graders struggle to run the ball so much? Boggles the mind.
Why don't we audible to pass plays every freaking time we see an 8-9 man box? And keep doing it until the D is forced to adjust? More mind boggling, huh?
We've had some modest success with passing to the TE. Why doesn't Boras dial up more?
Some have posted that Gurley lacks the vision and burst of last year. So why not give Benny (if healthy) or Brown a few snaps as a sort of experiment? Put this to bed quickly, one way or the other?
I know that this will ruffle a few feathers, but outside of that one return, Austin had a very underwhelming afternoon. Yet Fisher gave him a danged game ball. Talk about a man crush! I would like to see Britt and Quick on the outside, and some snaps for Spruce and Cooper. Yeah, even at the slight expense of Austin. Not all of the time, but definitely SOME of the time.
Finally, but most importantly, Fisher has to get Goff on the field. I love Keenum and it pains me to say this, but let's face it. He is operating at or verrrrry close to his absolute ceiling right now. Goff is gonna be our franchise QB sooner or later. I favor biting the bullet and making it sooner.
Yeah, it sucks for Keenum. But this O is only gonna soar once we have a more talented QB back there. A playoff winning QB.
I'm with you 43 on the need to do something about the sputtering O. I feel like Goff time is near despite them winning. Keenum did ok, but he misses some very easy throws.
I feel the recipe needed now is more Gurley in the pass game, more Cunningham and Brown in the run game. And keep challenging deep in general and start sending Austin deep more.
On Austin. In addition to Alyo's point below, I don't feel that TA really had an underwhelming game. When watching the game, I was struck with how bad his chemistry is with Keenum. Keenum just doesn't seem to be able to throw an accurate ball when it's to Tavon. I think he missed badly on three or four easy mid-range throws yesterday and a couple of them Austin would have been in space.
I've also noticed over the four games, that when they send Austin on regular intermediate and deep routes, and skip the throws behind the line of scrimmage, good things tend to happen.
