One of my nagging thoughts about the Packers game is that the Rams could have presented a healthier, larger front 4 and attempted to shut down the run first. I think Donald was more hurt then he let on and probably should not have played at least the 1st half. If the Rams use more Gaines/A Robinson which is their jumbo 3rd and short package, would that have helped the Rams defense in that Rodby BearlyThere - RamsFootballFans.com
My view of the defense in 2020 was that it was elite against the pass and medium against the run. Aaron Donald is a huge reason for this in that he gets so much penetration that he makes the pass game very difficult and against the run he is boom/bust in that he gets a lot of TFLs but also vacates gaps and leaves occasional big holes. The secondary was outstanding, especially with the raby BearlyThere - RamsFootballFans.com
Quotezn QuoteBearlyThere I agree that Goff has fallen far less than Wentz and should be worth more on the open market. He is a better player in my opinion. I agree that Goff has fallen far less than Wentz and should be worth more on the open market. He is a better player in my opinion. Doesn't change the fact that Rams had to move on Stafford or else. Wentz has a wow factor that excites those with an untrained eye. Wentz has an upside that is very exciting to desperate teams that need a hero. I believe Goff was likely worth a couple of 2nds or a low first, lowered value because of his contract obligations. If the rams had waited, they could have likely received compensation around what Wentz may bring. Even in that scenario, Rams need a QB and assume Stafford is still on the market. We know the leader was Carolina with an 8th overall Pick and Bridgeford. Can the Rams stillby BearlyThere - RamsFootballFans.com
Yes killrazor nailed it. Snead has done a well above average job overall and I can see why he was kept despite fisher's performance. My one gripe with Snead is that he over commits in huge contracts that would only work out if the player continues to dominate for most of the length of it. That hasn't worked at all so far except for Donald and if for some reason he didn't come back to hiby BearlyThere - RamsFootballFans.com

Not Bad. What makes Brady the goat in my opinion is that he is a very directive and fiery leader. In big moments that can lift you up. Now McVay is the same way so why is that different? I think the problem is he is trying to control too much. As head coach he should be overseeing more and making his moves when he sees the need instead of every single play all the time. That offense was horrible. Don't forget Gurley regressed like no other as well. And Case Keenum was a little bit better than Goff but overall played poorly. Then he went to the Vikings and got to the NFC game. All McVay had to do was bring a mediocre offense and everyone would be better. He did a little more than that in year one.by BearlyThere - RamsFootballFans.com

Staying unpredictable is important in the NFL. I understand that these guys may not be as well rounded of WRs/TEs as the 1st string, but surely they can do something new and better than the existing guys. Why didn't we see them for at least handful of plays here and there? Brycen in on goal line as a bigger jumpball WR? Webster and Jefferson in on 3rd and Long? Rams are not too far behind. The way the bucs beat the chiefs looked very similar to how GB beat the rams. A few 5-6yd runs right up the gut. A few quick throws to the out side. Then everything else opened up down the field. As soon as I saw how TB scored that first TD it looked over to me, with the one exception being that if any team can come back from being 22 down in the 3rd quarterby BearlyThere - RamsFootballFans.com
How do we feel about McVay's 2 years at Washington as OC in 2015-2016? They got a lot of yards but were middle of the pack in scoring points per game. They had Kirk Cousins who many rate over Goff but maybe just under Stafford? Compared to Shanahan with Ryan at Atlanta, the WFT offenses were modest. Florida, Do you think a coach can cause turnovers? They aren't throwing the ball or touching it. Are they ever responsible for turnovers or is it always the players only? Can you coach ball security? Can a coach influence going for it on tight windows vs taking the safe checkdown? Brady has had a lot of INTs this year going for long balls under Arians direction. I appreciate your analysis ZN and I agree if I read your point correctly. Goff is not a "turnover machine". He's had circumstances with the line and potentially play calling that have caused more turnovers beyond his pure cause. People remember the really bad 3+ turnover games including the media. They haven't analyzed if Goff is truly just a turnover machine or prone to spurtsby BearlyThere - RamsFootballFans.com
I think the fumbles are a forever issue due to his hands. He's gotten a little better at two handing the ball while maneuvering. A better line will also help with that. In regards to the Interceptions, he has always had a bad game every single year going back to Cal where he has 3-4 interceptions in a single game. He is also good for 3-4 WTF throws a season that result in picks. Asideby BearlyThere - RamsFootballFans.com
Pretty interesting discussion on the Lions board. When you actually look at the list, there aren't a ton of guys that I'd rank above Goff. He fits in that middle tier of 10-19 range depending on how you feel. Lions fans have Stafford everywhere from 5-16. They are going to compile averages based on all the responses. 16 teams need a QB or put differently, Goff is better than 16 incumbents out there. He may not be worth a 1st but he is worth something to teams out there. It was reported there was interest. What I am saying is that whatever they get for Goff, they would have had to add right into the package for Stafford and no guarantees they win it. I'm pretty sure the Rams could have gotten compensation for Goff if they had handled it differently. There was definite interest in Goff as reported. In an ideal world the Rams would have done what Detroit did first and offered Goff up for auction to the highest bidder first. McVay doesn't need them. They just become a potential failure point between his communication and the players directly. Cut out the middle man. I jest of course! I agree the defense will likely regress as it was soft against the run last year. New DC increases odds of a fall from the top. We don't even know if AD will return to form. He looked so tentative in that GB game. Re-watching it he should NOT have been in the game. Rams should have had their run stuffers in to shut down that part of the game and forced AR to throw. I hear you. Been reading a lot about Stafford's personality. Seems a LOT like Brett Farve. Alpha Gun Slinger who is a team leader but stay outta my way. He sounds pretty relieved like he felt McVay's ire every time the two passed in the hall. I think he and his $60mm will be just fine. Doesn't even need to sell his LA home as it will be a 1-2 year experiment in Detroit and then he can do what he wants. Now as to whether his gf Harper will move to Detroit? That's a different question.by BearlyThere - RamsFootballFans.com
Yeah I was thinking about that because it seems in conflict a bit with his surprise. Best guess I can come up with is that McVay is not his usual self with Goff. More standoffish and short. Not making eye contact. We kind of saw a change in him in the press conferences as well. Seemed to really be eating at him. Reading the Detroit boards, Stafford is in the mold of Brett Farve. A true gun slinger that doesn't want to be told what to do, especially in the 4th quarter. Just sit back and let him rip.
