The problem I see is that neither Young nor Verse have much coverage experience and both have the most reps rushing the QB from the right so their favorite moves are from that side. My guess is that BYoung has more experience in his second year and they will need to put him on the left in the pre-season to maximize both player's roles and allow them to rep both strong and weak assignments from thby Leoram - RamsFootballFans.com

I recall AD playing fewer snaps last year than ever and the D actually didn't look helpless as they did in previous years. My concern going into the draft was improvement of the run defense because teams regularly were able to sustain long drives when they didn't self-destruct or AD made splash plays...either by himself, or by freeing up other players by the extra attention he demanded. Watching Corum's tape makes me think about short yardage and goaline offense with the Harbaugh mentality. McSnead just beefed up the IOL like Michigan did. I'm thinking this is a harbinger for, let me catch my breath first...a FULLBACK? I really love how Corum uses his blockers. He's elite to me in that regardby Leoram - RamsFootballFans.com
I realize OLB's sometimes flip sides but most of the tape shows both these guys mostly lining up on the right side of the DL. I wonder which one will mostly switch to the left side and why. Will it matter if one takes the strong or weak side of the offense?by Leoram - RamsFootballFans.com
On Good Morning Football, Pete said that once Penix went off the board, the Rams war room became excited and tried to trade up for Bowers. They are happy with Verse, but they really wanted Bowers. The Raiders are very happy todayby Leoram - RamsFootballFans.com
This sounds like a contingency if either A) They can't get their target moving up or B) The players available at 19 don't represent a significant enough upgrade over those likely available later in the first or early second rounds. McSnead groups players in "pods" and two in the second "pod" may carry less risk and potentially more reward than only one in the higher grouby Leoram - RamsFootballFans.com
While we OL honks finally got our wish of a beefy interior to wedge the knife into defenses, I guess I shouldn't be shocked that most draftniks are obsessed with finding a 3T to replace AD. Um, Kobie Turner is already on the roster so.... Am I the only one that is still traumatized by how teams like SF and BALT ran at will against the Rams even with AD on the field? The Rams have a bevy of picks and the defense has very little depth. They also do quite well drafting in the later rounds. The new kickoff rule also puts pressure on locating better special teams players. There is merit to adding a stud LT or WR with the first pick. However, this appears to be a luxury since AD retired and the defense is in full rebuild mode. Another popular idea for the offeby Leoram - RamsFootballFans.com
This completely changes everything about special teams construction. Kickers need to be deadly accurate, not missle launchers. On the Rams, having someone to count on at 45 yards and in is all they need in the field goal department. I believe the ST makeup is more the linebacker/tight end types in the middle and safety/running back types on the edges. I prefer a running back as a returner goinby Leoram - RamsFootballFans.com
The notion the Rams will invest in the linebacker room has tremendous merit to me. Playing behind AD allowed Jones opportunities to scrape off Donald in both run and pass sets. His role in the defense will necessarily change this season and it's hard to predict how well he may adjust. Today's NFL demands more emphasis on safety types that can perform primarily in the passing game while still bby Leoram - RamsFootballFans.com
As a rookie, Turner had the best season of any defensive lineman in the NFL. His 11 sacks and 84.5 PFF grades are quite impressive. Some correctly insinuate the presence of AD helps everyone else on a Rams defense, but Donald didn't play as many snaps his last two years as he did up to the Super Bowl victory. Kobie played AD's role when the HOF to be lineman took his breathers. I'm not sayingby Leoram - RamsFootballFans.com

Dead, my question while you are checking measurements, what should be the prototype for Hoecht's role in the defense. I mean, he MUST be stout against the run but quick enough to cover screens, rush the QB, and cover receivers in the short zone. Seems like a big ask. Was Leonard Floyd the model?by Leoram - RamsFootballFans.com
I actually like Clark, though I think he jumped to common conclusions many make but don't always say. Admit it, the expectation was Jimmy Garappolo like management of the team. JG had an excellent record but nobody thought of him as elite. The perception would be difficult to break if one didn't study this in depth. McVay is such an excellent coach in many regards but his best superpower is his ability to recognize coaches who can expand his understanding of options and trends across the league. As frequently as he hires people he's worked with before, he also acquires talent from very different perspectives. Dan Campbell turned that franchise around being aggressive and believing in his players. His player let him down with a horrible drop. I hope that doesn't change a good coach. My dream offseason would include lining Madubuike next to Donald and Turner, getting Snead from Chiefs to lock down #1 wrs, and Lavonte David to help with pass defense in the middle. But I wouldn't make any of those moves if it cost us Dotson. I realize how financially unlikely this is, but as a Dodgers fan...I'm spoiled unapologeticallyby Leoram - RamsFootballFans.com
I hate having to say this again every year, but aggression in football scheme is always a gamble. Every pressure tactic exposes or creates a weakness that can be exploited. You want aggressive? How did you like the blitz heavy Haslett approach that regularly gave up explosives? Wanna hire Wink? Same thing. Today's NFL requires teams to morph into other principles within games. QuoteRam_Ruler I put the chances of that to zero. Morris will want to succeed quickly. They won't be shedding any talent. And that team is full of it. I've heard Sean specifically call Pitts one of the unique weapons in the NFL. For some reason, he never got many targets in Atlanta and Raheem will quickly know why. And yet, Morris has to build that defense in his image and may want a piece orby Leoram - RamsFootballFans.com
When Brad Holmes went to Detroit, he instantly became one of Snead's most accessible trade partners (thus Stafford/Goff.) Raheem and Sean are extremely close friends with Mike Tomlin (netting us Dotson). Theae playoffs seem to highlight how important a kicker is to winning and losing in the playoffs. I'm certain it's everyone's hope this position is prioritized going forward in terms of investment. To me, it's a matter of reward training. When the priority is to create turnovers, you see missle like kills shots (shoulder leaning) and punching or grabbing the ball. When it works, you're a highlight on ESPN. When it doesn't, the ballcarrier gets the highlight. Form tackles are boring and rarely inspire a replay. In essence, 1 FF > 5 regular tackles. Thus, the gamble. So, it's a matter of jby Leoram - RamsFootballFans.com
In a day of dreary post-mortem and forced congratulations, I propose something different. I've been a Rams fan since the 60's and I have to say, you just coached my favorite team. True, last night's result was difficult because I saw the pain in each of your eyes...for each other.
