I was out of town and couldn't watch the draft very much. But this board kept me up to date with great analysis. So many great contributors but Alyo, Deadpool and out of Youngblood who I didn't expect as much but what a hell of a job he did keeping everyone up to date and somewhat level headed when the emotions seem to run a bit hot. Anyway I loved reading all the comments and especially lby David Deacon - RamsFootballFans.com
Thanks Alyo that was great. I also really agree with your assessment of how did we not pick a CB, one of our biggest needs in draft where CB was was a pretty strong glass. I would take issue on the Bennent eval however. The comments you had on Bennent that were dings could be said about Young and Stroud too. While Young and Stroud may have had a higher production level, probably whey they bby David Deacon - RamsFootballFans.com
Seems Evans looks like someone hat really might be a player and eventual starter. RB get hurt & typically have shorter careers so we need another starter quality back in addition to Akers anyway. Williams looks like an okay 3rd down back but if he had to start we would be in deep doodoo. Love the pick and love the value we got from it.by David Deacon - RamsFootballFans.com
There is a lot to like about Bennent but he is short for a QB At the combine he tied with Levis for the most MPH per throw. That says arm strength At the Combine Bennet showed great deep ball accuracy and was as impressive as any QB throwing At Georgia he threw the ball all over and with accuracy, including deep balls. The guy can make all the throws needed for this offense. Bby David Deacon - RamsFootballFans.com
I think many thought Bennett would be available later in the draft. Apparently the Rams, who had plenty of 5th rounders didn't see it that way. And we have to assume Snead has a much better idea of how long Bennent would last. Spending a 4th round pick on a backup QB who should be as close to being ready as any QB in the draft seem like a good price. If all we get is a good backup QB for theby David Deacon - RamsFootballFans.com
Almost every player that is chosen needs to develop and as the draft goes on the more critical the player development aspect is because late round prospects have a lot more holes in their game. I think one way to evaluate drafting is to see how many comp picks a team receives over time. While this does not take into account the level of draft equity it does show how many prospect developed ovby David Deacon - RamsFootballFans.com
Youngblood be reading all your posts. My God you do bring some sanity to this process. Been out of town and just now catching up.by David Deacon - RamsFootballFans.com
Snead sees a football trait that is outstanding and may minimize negative traits such as height or lack of long speed. The hope is that they can uses the outstanding football trait immediately while developing the rest of their game. While you can add more strength and help people run faster nobody has figured out how to make them taller.by David Deacon - RamsFootballFans.com
Kid has talent, good arm & pretty nifty feet. Has won against the toughest competition. His a leader of the National Champs. He should be ready to step into the #2 job. So he is 5'11"by David Deacon - RamsFootballFans.com
I wish I had paid more attention to WR. My initial thought were that it was not a screaming need and that the WR class was on the weak side. Normally I would hate to be drafting for need in an areas that is not a strength of the draft. But from the sounds of it it looks like their may be value in round 2 at WR so I guess it makes sense. Well all I can say is I am excited to see what happeby David Deacon - RamsFootballFans.com
I don't like the WR taken in the 3rd round. Give me edge or CB. I like the in the 3rd but would take a CB instead. Now if there is no value in the 3rd for an edge or CB I would be okay with the TE but not the WR. Next year is supposed to be a strong WR class and I would wait on using a high pick for that position when I can get a good one next year.by David Deacon - RamsFootballFans.com
QuoteRamstien Trading Robinson for exchange of 7th round picks is exactly what it looks like, nothing more than a salary dump. The Rams still are stuck paying him millions next year just to get rid of him. Exactly this is a cap move 100%.by David Deacon - RamsFootballFans.com
Wow that draft look pretty good Love getting the RB & TE. Edge/CB too. Seem to hit our biggest needs with good players. Not sure how good the Punters and Placekickers but if there is high quality at either position I can see a late round pick being used on one of them. I think this is going to be the year for the UDFA bonanza. With our depth chart, New Stadium, Coaching Staff anby David Deacon - RamsFootballFans.com
The draft is only one avenue for acquiring talent to fill out a roster. To judge a GM success you should look at the quality of talent they have on their roster over time. I think when you review Snead's performance based on the talent on the roster it has been very good. Even in 2022 the roster was filled with enough talent to make some noise but the massive amount of injuries kept us from thby David Deacon - RamsFootballFans.com
QuoteRams43 QuoteRamstien Since everyone is thinking 2023 is a lost season do the Rams consider picking Tennessee QB Hendon Hooker, if he is available at pick #36. This gives him a year to learn under Stafford and should be ready to roll in 2024. Do you think that Hooker with a 2nd in ‘23 is a better Ram QB value than a top 5-10 in ‘24, Ramstein? On any conceivable level? It is really tougby David Deacon - RamsFootballFans.com
As a kid Deacon Jones was one of my sports hero's. My favorite Ram, Elign Baylor was my favorite Laker and Don Drysdale and Willie Davis were my favorite Dodgers. I remember reading about DDJ ask a kid and he ran a 100 yard dash in 9.7 seconds. The guy was unbelievable and it was him who they referred to when they first used the word sack. He was a violent player who used a head slap which laby David Deacon - RamsFootballFans.com
I totally agree that the Rams when the Rams are evaluating need they are looking not just at this year but at next year too. They also tend to "flood the zone" with picks for areas of weakness. We have seen this on the offensive Line and defensive backfield in the past. I also think the Rams are looking for players that have an outstanding football trait who love football. BPA is probably more important in the early rounds. Players are typically grouped by grades and there will often be multiple players available with the same or similar grade when you are picking. If there are a lot of players with similar grades and they correspond with you areas of need that hsi often when you will see a trade down. So BPA is subjective and often the draft, which is aby David Deacon - RamsFootballFans.com
I think anytime you can get an impact player at 36 you take them. Every draft publication I see has Gibbs going in the teens to the 20's so the odds are that he won't be there. Gibbs doesn't seem to have any redflags other than being short and somewhat on the light size. Still he is almost a sure (high Floor) thing to be a good back and has a chance to be a star. QuoteRam4life They opened me up at 530 am and I was awake by 12pm. I knew something was wrong when i awoke that soon. The doctor came in and told me they didn't take out my bladder because the cancer has spread to my side and looks like "a slab of concrete." They closed me up and now tell me I have a 20 or 30% chance and my only hope is chemo. Thanks too everyone that took the time tby David Deacon - RamsFootballFans.com
At first glance it seems alarming to see all the holes for depth on this team. Offensive Line depth is a little misleading at tackle when you see that Noteboom doesn't have a backup but in reality Jackson is the backup and may end up being the starter. Guard Depth is better than it seems a Coleman is listed as Backup Center but may end up starting at Guard or is at least a depth af tackleby David Deacon - RamsFootballFans.com
Thanks Dead that was above and beyond. I do remember the days of waiting anxiously for my Pro Football Weekly Draft book by Joel Buchsbaum who was the dude even before Mel Kiper. I have been hooked on the draft ever since. You and Alyo are now my main sources of information. While these ratings are not based on scheme fit it will be interesting to see how this stacks up with the Ram needsby David Deacon - RamsFootballFans.com
Thanks Alyo I would rate the TE need pretty high but more for 2024 than 2023. TE seem to have a big adjustment when transitioning to the pros so getting your guy for 2024 this year is pretty important. It looks like there is a bunch of talented players that will be available in the middle rounds and with so many TE's there will probably be good value if we pick on between rounds 4 -6.by David Deacon - RamsFootballFans.com
Williams and Maye probably top 2 after trades are finished. Both may be rated higher than any QB in this 2023 draft.by David Deacon - RamsFootballFans.com
Agree 43 money talks. Not sure how tradeable his contract is but if Rams pay half they would probably get a great return. Still there will be a lot of dead money with the signing bonus proration.by David Deacon - RamsFootballFans.com
I don't see the Rams taking someone early at RB. Not sure there will even be someone deserving of being picked their unless Gibbs falls and he is a small guy. So if he fell he would represent value but I do think we need more of a bell cow type to compliment Akers and Gibbs isn't really that guy. Now if someone fell into the 4th round that they loved it might not be a stretch to see them picby David Deacon - RamsFootballFans.com
Thank you, didn't know Akers was restricted that changes the game a bit. I get that RB are typically under drafted but that also means that a 2nd round back may fall to the 3rd round. But since Akers is restricted I would push the RB need down and I agree that picking on in the later rounds makes sense. Thanks for the great reply sorry I was so late in responding. In the 2024 there are 2 really good prospects. While 2023 may not be what we all would like I think we will be better than the bottom of the pile and probably won't have a shot at the top QB prospects in the 2024 draft. It seems really hard to find a great QB. Warner was great but Martz screwed him up. Bulger was ok but was never confused with the top QBs in the league. The what?
