I totally agree that the Rams when the Rams are evaluating need they are looking not just at this year but at next year too. They also tend to "flood the zone" with picks for areas of weakness. We have seen this on the offensive Line and defensive backfield in the past.
I also think the Rams are looking for players that have an outstanding football trait who love football. They pick these types with an eye towards developing them to be contributors in 2-3 years. These are the types that often result in comp picks.
I also believe the Rams have a great idea of who they can get as UDFA and will pass on draftable players knowing that they have a good chance of signing them after the draft. Every year we seem to have some surprises make the roster and practice squad.
With so many needs, look at the depth chart, I believe the Rams will be high on the list of UDFA and we may get an unusually good haul this year.
