Mostly great. Very good people, beautiful location.... and we're more than aware these days that every gig could be our last.
The bad: Lets start with the heat... we were facing into the sun for the first couple of hours and it was BAD... not just the heat, but being directly into the sun I couldn't see anything in front of me. I had to tell the other buys they needed to back up and sideways to cue me because not a chance in hell I could see them cuing me if they stayed at their mic's.
The worst: All time record for breakdowns. No idea why... weird things like losing cords. We had, I think, 5 cords go bad? 2 speaker cords and 3, maybe 4, instrument cords. We also lost half an amp. All of that was aggravating, to say the least... but making it worse was that during setup we had nailed it... we were getting exactly the sound we wanted. WE played a 'dinner set', (music while they ate), that went perfectly... then when we began the dance segment we didn't even get thru the first song until the tech demons struck.
Nothing to do with the music BUT... I pulled two muscles loading equipment after the gig....the last 3 days I haven't been able to turn my head one inch to the left or right. And of course, for no reason whatsoever, I've been sneezing my ass off for the last 3 days sending waves of tormenting pain surging thru my body.
Ok, that sounded mostly bad didn't it? Nah... aggravating, for sure, but it was a gig, we played music, and who knows... watching the sun going down, (which I couldn't miss since it was right in my eyes), we all felt that maybe, just maybe, we had rode off into the sunset. - JamesJM
