What I mean by that: We immediately preceded some national acts but mostly, (nearly always), we would be part of a 3 to 6 band concert and played hours before the headliner. Meaning we were often long gone from the venue by the time the headliner took the stage.
Example: We played before Santana many times..... but LONG before. I did get to meet them, however, since we knew the venue owner and stuck around backstage for the full concert.
I have no memory of $.... not sure if we ever got paid... maybe. We did NOT get paid when we preceded The 13th Floor Elevators... the night before we had won a battle of bands competition and the prize was opening for them the following night... also a $1,500 recording session we never did take advantage of.
We have a gig today! I'll be leaving for the gig about 1pm our time... we have to set up early. I've already packed my gear. I think we're being paid $1,200 tonight. Nice thing about socials is that we're nearly always 'tipped'. We'll probably get around $2,000. $500 each.
I think this is only our 3rd gig since Covid began..... or since about Jan. 2020. - JamesJM
