I am constantly watching today's drummer exhibit their prowess and speed on Youtube videos... and I'd give dang near anything to be able to do that. But I can't.... so my point was not that I have found something I like 'better'... just different and that can still be a challenge. I'd much prefer to be competent doing both.
Tricks - you bet... but should we divulge that here on the Pub?
I mean, you don't see magician's giving away their magic secrets.
I can do double-stroke rolls down the kit that to the untrained ear will probably sound much like the single-stroke runs the fastest drummers use a LOT these days. But it's not the same, and I can tell.
Not that there isn't a place for double-stroke rolls, there certainly is.
Drives me crazy with envy that today most of the top drummers can do lightspeed paradiddles faster with their feet than I can do with my hands.
Yup, I'll be ready.... can't help but be.... we are playing basically the same songs today that we started with back in the mid-90's. There isn't a song we play that I can't drum too while sipping a coke, talking to someone, taking a hit of vocal-eze, tuning a drum, and reading this website at the same time.
