Rick the Guitar Guy (my teacher and guitar repair guy) said I could refinish the front but it would probably cost $600 to $800. I think I paid $850 for it used. He said use it, abuse it, play it, enjoy it, and don't worry about it so that's what I'm doing.
I'm not sure what your LP is worth, but I sold a Gibson L6S about 4 years ago that I think was made in about 1974 and they gave me $650 for it, and said they'd probably sell it for around $850. They are not worth nearly as much as the LP's. But that's probably considered "vintage" and I'll bet would bring a few bucks. If you ever get it appraised, I'd love to hear.
I wish I could get a Strat or LP from the late '50s or '60s or something like that, but probably wouldn't turn loose of the money even if I had the chance. If you haven't already left it to someone in your will, you've always been my favorite poster here. LOL!
I tend to be pretty gentle with them, so even the ones I've had for 30 years tend to look nearly like new.
