I have no idea what "The City" is but i'm betting it is not neutral when it comes to politics. Moreover, I seriously doubt that any qualified medical examiner would instruct personnel to not ask where a COVID patient had lately been. As far as the protests go we really can't confirm. A protester could have contracted the virus at a protest, a rally, a party, a restaurant, etc. The virus won't tell you where it came from. However, if a significant rise in hospitalization shows an overwhelming number of these people involved in the protests then we can assume a "more likely than not" position. OTOH these protesters likely due many things in their life besides protesting. I don't know if being outside helps prevent the disease. Right now we are closing down all our beaches, trails and other outdoor activities. I read an article from a Scripps etemiologust in LaJolla who said that the wind can take the droplets and deposit them far away, certainly more than 6 ft. Who knows.
