we talk alot about state championships , conference championships , kids getting scholarships , beating the cross town rivals
but the part that bums me out
with all these small school closing , are the average kids , or even below average kids when it comes to athletic skills
alot of the schools we played maybe had 25 kids on the team , and thats grades 9-12
some schools maybe only had like 5 or 6 seniors on the entire team
I remember playing a team where their entire defensive back field was made up of Freshman and Sophomores , and I'm not sure anyone one of them weighed more the 120 lbs , and a couple of those weren't the most athletic kids
but my point is , these small schools gave hundreds of kids the opportunity to play football as well as other sports , that they would never have a chance to in larger schools
and now those opportunities have become a thing of the past
we all love the star Quarterback , but it's the kids that only get into the game late in the 4th quarter after the score got out of hand that I enjoy watching
the kids that come to practice every single day , knowing that they'll probably not get to play in the next game , but show up anyways
