When I was a kid , every small town in Iowa had it's own school ,
well , almost all small towns , there are some pretty small towns here
but all these small towns gave opportunities to kid like me to play all kids of sports , because alot of these school took pretty much everyone to field a team
but.............
I've mentioned on here before , all these small school are disappearing , being swallowed up by larger school ,
and so fewer and fewer kids get the opportunities to play ,
not only is the school I went to no longer independent school , it's now been consolidated with another school
but the conference I played in , at one time had 16 schools , now no longer even exist , some of those school no longer exist , others like mine had consulted and had to move to a different conference
here's a recent one
Everly High School , a school we've been playing against since my parents were in school
just closed their door this year , didn't consolidate with any other school or anything , so now all the kids from Everly have to go to one of the neighboring towns , although each family can choose where to send them , which I guess is a good thing that they can choose
but kids that might start on the Everly football team , probably wouldn't make the team or even go out at a school the size of Spencer or Storm Lake
there probably aren't even half as many High School Football teams ( or schools ) in the state of Iowa as there were when I was kid
small schools have been gobbled up by the larger school , and sadly , so have alot of the kids that would have played football at the smaller school
home of the Cattlefeeders...............................no more
