I don't know much about Macs and have VERY little experience with them... but I don't think browsers for Windows have much, if any protection built into them. Most virus creators target Windows because it's a huge percentage of the market, so Macs have (or at least used to be) more immune to threats inherently. There are some threats out for Mac users now too, though.
My brother swears by Bit Defender, and I was going to use it until it insisted that I remove Malwarebytes, so it's dead to me now.
