When it rains..

I'm knee deep in trying to transport my brothers body from Dallas back him for cremation.. I'm also knee deep in clearing out his apartment that should have been featured in an episode of Hoarders..
So, I get a call last night from a frantic woman in Rhoad Island.. she was hyperventilating and very upset and asked if I was related to Richard, my brother.. I said I was and I could hear the relief in her voice.. finding one of his relatives obviously was a big relief to her.. so then she says they had been involved for 7 years and said she hadn't heard from him in two weeks.. she then, cheerfully asked if I knew where he was..................
I had to tell her he had passed last Saturday.. I heard her gasp and then completely fall apart on the phone., it was the most terrible thing I've ever had to do.. imliterally crushed this woman and myself in the process..
Once she was able to talk, she told me their story.. they met after she bought one of his French art pieces on ebay.. it escalated for 7 years .. last time she heard from him he was being transported to Dallas in an ambulance.. he called her and said he was in a truck and that the drivers were taking him to Dallas to shop.. he had been extremely confused due to his massive infection., she hadn't heard from him since.. I was told he was so confused he forgot how to answer his phone.. there are Hu dress of missed calls on his phone, so I believe it..
She has all this information for me..that he had told her he loved me and wanted to give me a massive apology.. he was tickled and so happy that I had taken over his medical care decisions..
She broke down repeatedly and I stayed with her on the phone about an hour and a half.. it was themwirst thing I've ever had to do - to crush her hear like that.. she's older and probably doesn't have much time left, herself.. I just crushed her heart.. I know it wasn't my fault, but still..mi am so devastated for her.. she was so happy to talk to me to finally get news about who she loved deeply.. and I had to tell her he passed away.. this situation just sucks more and more every day.. thank you for reading and for your support..
By the way, she didn't ask for money or info of anything that could be a scam.. she deposited money in his accounts to pay his rent and bills.. she paid rent through September so I'd have more time to clear his stuff because she knew there were so high dollar items in there that he would be crushed if they were simply thrown out.. I told her 8d send her the balance of what she had deposited in his account (kind of ssma test) and she said that was a gift to him and for me to use m the balance to help pay for his celebration of life well have in September.. I'm being very careful, but I'm pretty convinced she's legit.. she knew q lot of really personal things from his childhood.. I'll still be careful, tho..
