When I was younger, a physical consisted of the usual BP check, height and weight, but they also did a chest x-ray, some blood work, urinalysis and sometimes even took a stool sample. A physical was the routine stuff PLUS some extras. At least that was my experience.
But my "physicals" haven't been like that in quite a few years. In fact, doctors don't even refer to any of my exams as physicals either, come to think of it. When I see the doctor now, ANY of my doctors... it's the same routine stuff they do every time I walk into their office: height, weight, BP check, pulse. They verify my meds and medical history... new symptoms... and that's it. Anything more than that is specific to their particular specialty.
