I'd love to have Mayfield back as the backup in 2023. But if it's a decision between him and infusing more talent into the starting OL then it's OL all day long...
I do agree that Stafford likely has two years left. It's hard to see him playing past 2024. And he and McVay may walk into the sunset together in early 2025.
But I think the idea of sitting Mayfield down and saying, "look, you're our guy....in 2025... when McVay very possibly isn't here anymore..." is far fetched.
The Rams need to be prepared to spend around $2.5M on a quality backup in the spring. Maybe that's Mayfield. Maybe it's someone else.
