Why do you assume guilt? We have an allegation of tanking. We have no proof that it happened. And, the allegation comes from a disgruntled coach that got fired.... which any jury would find as suspicious. Besides, if a HC agreed to tank for the money, it's a conspiracy and the HC is every bit as guilty as the owner. If it did happen, then the owner and the HC needs to face the music.
Personally, I doubt an HC could even accomplish it. It would take players co-operating. It could be better accomplished by a GM and Owner that dismantles a team of its best players and thus makes it non-competitive. On the other hand, if the goal is to clear salary space to rebuild the team in a different mold by sending away some of your better players, that's a reasonable strategy and certainly not unethical. And, it has happened repeatedly. Otherwise you stick with a losing formula of trying to rebuild a team with mostly the same guys.
The NFL draft system was designed to bring parity. It has. The NBA system sucks. There's no parity in the NBA. It's all about having the money to acquire the established Superstars. The last thing the NFL should do is try to emulate a sports league that has lost its way.
the NBA's problem isn't the draft....it's the fraudulent salary cap.
Tanking for the top pick in the NFL has been an accusation by many well before these latest allegations .... it wouldn't be that hard for a team to do with a winky and smile from an owner.
remember the "suck for Luck" year?
