Just what does Raheem Morris bring as a coach? I have been asking this question since the Rams hired him. Even back then, I was puzzled by the move. I was fine with deferring to McSnead as he must have something that they like. But from what I've read about him, it's always about what positions he's attained more than what he brings as a coach. He doesn't seem to have a system or identity as a coach as much as he's able to climb the NFL coaching ladder.

I just don't see why. He was handed the reigns as HC of the Buccaneers without ever serving as even a coordinator in the NFL at that point. Those teams got worse under his tenure and his last year as head coach they gave up 494 points on defense.

He then got fired, bounced around for 8 years without a coordinator or HC job and then over the last 3 years he goes from DC to HC to DC again without anything notable connecting those hires. He worked up to DC for Dan Quinn's Falcons but wouldn't that really be Dan Quinn's defense? Not sure what Morris brought to that situation. Once again, he inherits a HC job when Quinn is fired but he also doesn't win the permanent job from his interim position. From there, he's handed the #1 defense of the Rams.

But why?

Morris certainly knows how to position himself and work his way through the ranks but I don't know what he offers as a DC(much less as a HC) and his results look very mediocre to me. Morris never played in the NFL, didn't work his way up as a coordinator, hasn't done much as a coordinator or HC but he's been given 2 NFL HC and 2 DC opportunities for...reasons?

The Buccaneers got worse under his control. Falcons too. Now Rams. Just what is it about Morris that he keeps getting handed these opportunities?

If McVay retains him he is not maturing or evolving as a coach
