I think McVay found himself in a bind

January 13, 2022 08:55AM
It's awfully easy to sit back and watch coach after coach be grabbed up, year after year, and just talk about replacing him. But that is a very big task with no guarantees.

There's only so many Fangio-3/4 guys around. And of those, only so many that are DC leadership quality.
I think Morris was a choice McVay probably would have preferred not to make but had to make. He knew the guy, knew he could coach OK, get along with the locker room and the staff.... a known quantity. And, he was obtainable.

It wouldn't surprise me one bit to see Morris "promoted" to assistant HC or something like that to free up the position. If I'm McVay I go all in to get Fangio, whom I doubt will be offered an HC gig.

If McVay retains him he is not maturing or evolving as a coach
