His best strength is his leadership....when he was out there last year that offense had some step to it.....It's easy to see people out there and say let's get him...fantasy football is a different league from real football....A team needs to have the want to make the trade, the other team has to want to reciprocate....then you need the ammunition to make the trade work....you also need to look into the future to see what this trade would do to you down the line.
IMO I have seen nothing in Wolford that says this guy can't be a backup....not a future starter, but a backup....he has the 1st needed thing, leadership, he also has a grasp of the O, he can also go off scheme....his passing IMO is adequate because we have an above average WR group.
Yes he needs to be available of course....he got hurt last year due to IMO a dirty hit..this year he's out because of a non football issue...Nothing I can see tells me he's injury prone...
He better find some way to stay on the field. Regardless of how he's labeled, he couldn't stay on the field when he got his chance last year and now he's missing time again. That's a lot of instability from the position that really shouldn't have any injury concerns. Had Wolford really stepped up, showed competently or well, did what he could and kept the Rams in both of his games and then come into this year and looked the part as a backup, no problem. But how many chances do they take on this guy? We still don't actually know if he can play.
Minshew is at least a borderline starter and basically a victim of circumstance. He's not the only option but he's a pretty good one. He says he wants a chance to start so that may be a deal breaker for him coming to the Rams. But, if he looks at the situation and realizes that if he does get a chance with the Rams it would be a golden opportunity, maybe he'd be open to it?
Whether it's Minshew or just someone like that, I'd feel a lot more comfortable with more of an established guy. I was all for giving Wolford his shot but he's not taking advantage. McVay must think he's got some real potential or his hubris demands that he find a way to make him work but in most cases I'd say he would have missed his chance already.
