I agree 100% that McVay is not infallible and that he has made some questionable coaching hires.

But to say that not promoting from within is an issue? Nah. I want him to hire the best guy for the job he's being hired for without regard to whether he will ever be promoted.

And of course we have no way of knowing whether or not the guys he did not promote were "the best." So we don't know if the guys he did not promote would have been better or not. We only know that if he doesn't promote coordinators internally, then, in his own eyes, his own hires are not worthy of being coordinators.

Internal promotion is a good policy because it fosters continuity.
