Despite having loads of experience as a head and position coach, he's only been a DC for one season in college (Kansas State, 2006) and 5 games last season with the Falcons. The K-State defense improved under him, as did the Falcons when he took over as HC. Ultimately he is pretty unproven as a DC.
However, he's got a solid background, having worked under Monte Kiffen and Jim Haslett, and Jon Gruden knows how to pick staff, so I feel good about his hiring.,
