His defenses were never very good as your post shows.
History is important and is not to be ignored.
Experience is great. I mean Joe Vitt had a ton of experience - but is it experience in winning? Innovation? Bringing top ranked defenses.
This hire, of all the hires, scares me a bit.
It felt like brining in one of "his guys" versus "the guy".
That said, since McVay is infallible (kidding), I trust he knows what he is doing and, if it blows up, he will disappear (see Mr. Bonamego).
It just doesn't have the feel of the Staley hire.
Remember too, that Staley worked his magic via NO OTAs and by ZOOM.
Seriously one of the most impressive things I have ever seen in the NFL.
