Gotta agree about the quality of McVay’s coaching hires. Through his first 4 years I think Bonamego was his only bust. So, why should we not expect excellence in this, his 5th year?
He has many good hires.
But just so we can deflate this myth of infallibility a bit, he also replaced many coaches on his own (and actually kept Bonamego just not as a coordinator).
Names that immediately come to mind are Johnson and Phillips and Kromer and Fassell. (To be fair those weren't all straight up "fires" but yes he has moved on from his own hires, it happens). He also would not promote certain guys and let them walk instead. For example, why not an internal defensive coordinator hire?
So it's not complete infallibility.
On the other hand, he has a strong record of coaches being picked up from the Rams. Olson, Taylor, LeFleur, Staley, Waldron.
It's a good picture, it's just not a picture of pure infallibility.
