One of your best posts ever Merlin.
I agree with it all.
I think people are going to be surprised how early and how much Jacob Harris is going to contribute. Imagine a guy about as big as Mike Evans, only Harris is one of the fastest guys in the league. A high 4.3 guy against a high 4.5 guy. He shows it on the field. He's not just fast. He's agile and has huge athletic ability. Was actually recruited in college as a Soccer player, if you can imagine it. Yeah, he's got some serious development ahead of him. But outside of Megatron, I'm not sure the league has seen anyone like him. And he's a ST cover demon.
As for TuTu. Not so sure about him being a PR guy.... but maybe. Perhaps a KO return guy at first. PR guys get creamed all the time. I'm not sure the Rams want that. Not sure who will be the PR guy, but you can bet they have candidates in mind that I sure hope no longer includes Kupp. And yeah they might use TuTu there and cross their fingers.
I'm not at all sure that the Rams are thinking D Will will be a goner after this year. A lot depends on how he does. If he plays even a little bit better than last season, he'll be in high demand. But the Rams were willing to give up 2 #1's for Ramsey plus a ton of dough. All D Will will take is a big contract.... no draft picks. If he develops to be THAT good (kind of a second coming of Darryl Green), the Rams may do whatever they have to do to keep him around. I think Ramsey and Williams have the potential to be the best CB pairing in the NFL in 2021. And for that you find a way to keep it going.
Staying healthy will be the major issue. But O man is the NFC West loaded. There's not a team in the division that couldn't win it. I keep expecting the Hawks to take a step back, but Wilson single handedly keeps them in contention. These guys are going to beat each other up so the odds of an NFC West team having the highest seeding for the playoffs is dim. Where the Rams and Hawks have an advantage is at QB. Garopollo is a very average QB, and I think Murray is going to be one of those guys who is constantly hurt because his entire game revolves around his running ability. And man is he SMALL. He was beat up a good portion of last year and I expect that to continue.
Appreciate it man. And always good to see some positivity and support for what has been a radical but very effective offseason.
Re: Harris I also have high expectations. But what I define as high expectations is that he shows a bit in the slot in that F role for us. And strangely enough what excites me most about him is not his speed and athleticism but his toughness. The fact that this guy is a beast on special teams tells me he's going to round out very very nicely as a TE in this league. This guy won't be trying to look like he's attempting a crackdown block on a DE like Everett did. He will actually execute a crackdown block. Most of the F type athletic TEs hate contact. Or at the least are contact shy. Not this guy though and that is very exciting. He will be up every week as a core teams player too so he's there and available for snaps once he knows what he's doing. So yeah after Bobby Brown this guy was my favorite pick of this class.
If Tutu can't receive punts it will be interesting to see what route they take. I think Web is a likely cut. So that would be his "in" to make this roster and beat out a guy like Skowronek who looks to be a core teams type and those guys will edge out bottom roster rivals who don't help on teams. But yeah no idea on how that goes and it looms as a major question mark for us.
DWill it would be nice to keep him so I hope you're right. I think the only way the Rams keep him is if Ramsey doesn't play well and they move him though. Which is unlikely. I'd say it's probably 95% Williams leaves in FA unfortunately. He's gonna make some bank.
I feel like we are living in an amazing moment in time as Rams fans right now. And we have a very good chance for things to come together this season. I just wish more Rams fans could see it.
