I think that is what we may be looking at here.
The offense took a huge step back when it lost Gurley and Cooks. Akers is ready to go. At receiver the depth should be far better with excellent competition that pushes production. Jefferson year two, DJax coming in to push him, Tutu waiting in the wings with all that speed. Just a huge difference over last season. Stafford has a big arm, he's seen it all, and he can drop that ball accurately downfield. He is what they hoped Goff would become, they just took a shortcut to that destination.
This is going to be one of the best offenses in the league.
Defensively we lost some pieces but they brought in the right type of replacements IMO. We needed to get more stout up front. Check. We needed a replacement in the pipeline for DWill leaving next year. Check. I have a lot of questions with where the young safeties sort, however we do have a nice stable of young safeties all of whom have shown good things on the field. ILB may see a boost too if Jones can learn this defense quickly. Blindside edge is our biggest weakness but Oko is a solid all-around LB and may be ready to show something and maybe we get a miracle season out of Lewis who knows.
Either way this is going to be one of the best defenses in the league.
And lastly what I love about this draft is the focus on special teams. I don't feel like McVay has done that yet. This is a first for him and it's going to pay off because they added grit and depth for the offense in particular while boosting those teams. IMO Tutu is going to return punts. I don't care that he didn't in college outside of a small sample size. He has the right tools. He also is a depth player so it's appropriate for him to do returns. And if he can do that we may have that third phase of scoring threat and flipping the field that we have lacked for so long.
Perfect storm. I can feel it.
