I think it's tough to credibly make this argument when the 2020 OL was better than what pretty much everyone thought it would be. They were right!
They weren't wrong about 2019 either. They knew there would be growing pains. Mcvay said something very interesting after the draft this year. He said they knew it would be rough for a while with all the young OL developing. That sounds to me like they're not overestimating what they have; they were aware and willing to pay the price as part of the plan.
