“It’s not about winning the trade, it’s about winning the Super Bowl.” Was that McVay or Snead? I don’t remember who said it. Nonetheless, that’s what the QB swap was all about. McVay is convinced he can’t win the Super Bowl with Goff, and believes he can with Stafford.
I don’t believe that, based purely on ability, Stafford is 2 firsts and a 3rd better than Goff. The Rams overpaid for 2 reasons. They were: 1. determined not to get outbid for Stafford, and 2. be rid of Goff and his contract.
This scenario does not exist for the Eagles with Wentz. As a result, the Eagles will get closer to true value for Wentz. That buys them more currency, but it doesn’t buy them stability at the most important position.
So what is stability worth? That’s the question that must be answered to truly evaluate the difference in the trades. I don’t believe it can be answered concretely. Subjectivity, we’ve got in Stafford a QB that is commonly believed can take us on a legit Super Bowl run. The Eagles otoh remain in limbo. I don’t know how to put a value on that difference in terms of draft picks.
