McVay and Snead are QB savvy enough to know that for Stafford to succeed that matches the great price they paid to get him, they have to get him 2 things: a good deep threat (not great, just good) and as solid an Oline as they can put together.
I join most here thinking that the weak link of our Oline as it stands is at Center. But I want to stress that Blythe is not a BAD Center; he just isn't the level that we need to give the QB that extra 1/2 second.
As for deep threat, I just don't know what is best. Perhaps an aging vet like AJ Green who has enough speed but is also a 50/50 ball winner. Maybe a familiar target for Stafford like Marvin Jones. I suspect the Rams will not be able to spend much to get one, so I won't be surprised if they hope to get one in the draft or pick up a fast small guy in FA who has been a pretty average player but with flaws. I think we'd probably only see this player on the field perhaps on 30% or so of the snaps so they can't and shouldn't pay a lot for that.
My point is that the Rams know that no QB can succeed unless he has the pieces around him. And they didn't get Stafford so that he is a "game manager" or a dink and dunker. He is expected to make big plays with his arm or there was no reason to acquire him and McVay would look pretty bad if Stafford wasn't used for what he is: a gunslinger.
