No denying now that McVay is not happy with Goff. Sometimes you need to do this kind of stuff to light a fire like Arians was doing with Brady.
Is this to light a fire, or is he preparing us for a future without Goff?
Hard to say, but I think most of us know once it gets to this point, it's hard to recover from. Especially at the QB position where the rest of the team looks at him to set the tone.
McVay is playing with fire now and it is fascinating to see what he comes up with:
1. Fix relationship with Goff through competition and rebuilding
2. Bring in a Vet to replace
3. Identify and nurture a draft pick/unknown
You previously said that McVay is a control freak and that might not be working with Goff and in fact it may be backfiring.
That actually sounds more plausible than what you are saying now.
I mean, no good purpose is served by throwing the qb under the bus, especially after a gutty final performance playing hurt.
You fix that stuff behind closed doors, right?
Or in the process find you're incompatible...but, under those circumstances, coaches don't get to mail order bride qbs. Better to know how to adapt what you need on offense to that qb's strengths and weaknesses, instead of just complaining about the qb to the media about the qb not fitting your square holes.
