We know that McVay eats, sleeps and breathes football. He hates losing and I'm guessing that he wants that same dedication from his QB. McVay wants a Brady, or Rogers who will command the offense, and the offensive players, on the field and won't accept excuses.
Instead he's got Goff, who seems like a nice guy and whom many have noted is a laid back. He's 25, has $30 mil in his pocket and a high profile girlfriend. It's really easy to get casual with that kind of safety net. An internet tweet also suggests he's a partier.

Their first two years together it was easy for both of them, they had the players, a new offense, and they were having fun. In years 3 & 4 there has been some talent loss, it's not as easy and probably not as much fun. McVay wants Goff to step up, and I expect that's why he's trying to light a fire under him right now. Noticeably Goff, angered, played better in the last two games after he was passed over for Wolford.
No clue whether this relationship can be saved.
