It appears Goff has been given the ability to change the play at the line and it seems he does this quite a bit.
What we do not know before he audibles and changes the play is what the original play was.
Perhaps McVay was calling runs and Goff kept changing to pass? There really is no way to know. But perhaps Goff tweaking too much is causing a lot of break downs etc. It is also maybe why we do better in hurry up offense since there is not so much switching and changing at the line.
I have no idea if this is a factor or not or is a reality or not, but if this were happening I could see McVay telling Goff to do it less and Goff continues because he sees things that are actually there. Then if Goff does not change it and the play fails I could see where he would be frustrated, likewise if he does change it and the play blows up I could see McVay being frustrated.
Because we do not know what play is being called or changed, we also do not know if blocking assignments are blown and by who, we do not know if routes are blown and by who etc. There is so much we do not know. There are a lot of things we can diagnose with film, but live it is impossible to see everything.
