You raise many good points here, max.
I’m gonna set all aside in this reply and just comment on McVay.
Something’s wrong. He’s been making strange calls and strange decisions more and more lately. Abandoning Akers being an excellent example. Seemingly forgetting that he has TE weapons is another.
In 2018 there was not a HC that I would’ve traded McVay for. But Shanny and LaFleur have been beating him rather convincingly lately, just to name a couple. Then there was that SB disaster.
Now he sees his QB devolving from that mid-‘18 high level to a bottom third QB right before his eyes. And he seems helpless to FIX it. Aren’t players supposed to IMPROVE with coaching and experience?
If Goff is not a good fit for McVay, then WTH would McVay ever endorse that monumental contract extension? And if McVay couldn’t see today’s Goff issues then, then it begs the question, WTH not?
See what I mean? We seem to have more McVay questions than answers lately, huh?
Don’t get me wrong. I consider McVay a very good HC and replacing him is out of the question. But he’s not the genius that also walks on water that he appeared to be in his first 2 years, either. He’s just about used up his Mulligans, don’t you think? Time for RESULTS.
The upcoming offseason and ‘21 season will test him, no doubt. He needs to resolve this Goff/QB issue and tweak his OL and playcalling issues to get back to an elite level for his O. Staley is fine but Bonamego has gotta go. I’m halfway surprised that they haven’t fired him already, tbh.
I guess that I’m saying that McVay could perhaps be added to our ‘problems’ list. Hope he can do a self-audit and make some corrections before making personnel moves. He’s gotta do it himself because otherwise it’s unfixable by another.
