I'm no expert and I am well documented as a Goff apologist. But to me, McVay's tone about Goff seems like a lack of confidence in him. Sean does all the coachspeak, but by starting Wolford he showed his hand. For the first time, I actually believe McVay wants a new QB. While I don't agree, I won't argue with McVay. I hope the offense progresses. The running game is essential. Frankly, I'm frustrated with much of the playcalling. It looks too predictable to me.
I'm trying to enjoy the win but the "connection" McVay preaches seems to be coming apart. I hope I'm wrong.
I don't know that I see a lack of confidence in Goff based on Mcvay's tone but assuming you're right, tell me more about the connection McVay preaches coming apart.
I'm not quite following that. Are you saying that if McVay has doubts about Goff that runs contrary to him having a connection with his players?
That's a good question. What I mean is that I sense a mutual frustration between Sean and Jared. I admit this is not based on facts and I could very well be wrong.
Got it. Thanks for the explanation.
I sense some mutual frustration too which shouldn't be surprising given the offense hasn't performed well overall this year and those two, along with the OL, are big reasons why.
I don't.
I think you guys are hunting for something that is not there.
And, I don't see McVay as the petty kind of coach who would put more stress on his qb by being "frustrated" at him. I think he knows better, both about handling qbs and about what the issues really are.
I just view the whole thing from a different perspective. I mean for example it's no accident that in the last Seattle game, the Rams did not have Whitworth and their interior OL got beat up. Goff of course did not do well under those conditions (but then neither did Wilson when subjected to similar conditions.) Though what happened was, a lot of fans made it just about Goff. Naturally. I think McVay knows better.
Meanwhile, this Seattle game, Whitworth plays and the interior OL redeemed itself (ie. that's 2 separate things). In fact PFF gave Corbett and Blythe both high grades for this game (I take PFF as ballpark, which in this case works just fine). And then Seattle can't stop the Rams in spite of a banged up Goff playing like a qb with a banged up hand (tough, gutty, picking his spots, playing within his injured self).
I think McVay sees thinks like that.
So I have no reason to buy into the narrative that they are "frustrated" at each other.
More than that I see all the efforts to try and push that narrative as falling flat and as having nothing to stand on.
