Just my opinion old friend, as always I could be wrong but I think this is a young man that was hurt he didn't start and doesn't want it to happen again.
I got a chance to tune into the local (SoCal) Fox 11 Sports Wrap Post-Game Show. This show is co-hosted by Jackie Slater and Vince Ferragamo.
Ferragamo speculated that, although Goff was happy with the win, he likely was pizzed at McVay for not starting him. Said that, once the thumb fracture was confirmed, the decision was immediately made to have surgery and that Goff had adequately rehabbed the injury - enough so to be the backup QB. Vince went on to say, though, that, if Goff was good enough to be the backup, he should've started.
Ferragamo said that, had HE been in the same situation, HE would've been upset at McVay. He went on to point to the sidelune celebration after Goff's TD pass to Woods. Said that Goff declined to make eye contact with McVay (when they're typically all over each other after a good play).
Vince said that he sensed there was a problem/lack of trust between the two.
Here's the deal, though...Ferragamo made his comments
before hearing that the decision to start Wolford had been made early in the week. Upon hearing this, it was my interpretation that Vince took a step back. But he continued to insist that Goff should've started and that there shouldn't have been too great of a transition to revert to a Goff-based game plan.
Just wanted to point this out as it could lend credence to stlramz' position.
