Because they actually show how we can't be objective about Goff. Yes, all qbs have awful games but where their baseline is matters. So like Russell wilson a few weeks ago, comparing Goff's lows to rodgers lows puts you in a bind when you then compare their highs and/or baseline play.
Goff is average to good. That's fine. We can win it all with him. He just needs to play better than he has of late.
Thank you for this fair and balanced approach.
I've said many times, the standards for quarterback performance sway with pre-conceived bias. My go to example was Brett Favre throwing 6 interceptions to the Rams in the playoffs but that remains a blip in his legacy while Warner languished for years as "washed up" while he was the most frequently sacked QB in the league. Then, of course, when he got protection and good receivers again, he led a team to the Super Bowl.
There are times Goff shows incredible ability (think '18 games v Vikes and Chiefs) and times he looks helpless (as recently as the Dolphin game).
What baffles me is the perspective of some of my Ram brothers. If I told you six years ago we could draft a QB that would produce Goff's career stats and win/loss totals, would you have picked apart his projected flaws and suggested we pass on him? Which brings me to his perceived flaws. What are they?
Let's see how you really feel about him. On a scale of 1-10, how does he rate?
1. Leadership
2. Accuracy
3. Operation Management
4. Ability to make throws to all parts of the field
5. Decision making
6. Mental Toughness
7. Pocket presence
8. Mobility
9.Creativity off-schedule
10. Ability to stay healthy
My guess is that if we collectively did this evaluation, we would simply be grateful that Goff is our QB even through the moments when his performance is as baffling as recent performances by Wilson and Rodgers.
