1) The Niners absolutely had Mahomes off his game. The Chiefs had to keep moving him because the Chiefs interior line could not block the Niners. However, he is one of the few QBs who is athletic enough to move like that and win ENOUGH against that defense
2) I do think you are selling the Chiefs defense in particular and their run game short in the game. The 49ers coming into the game average over 200 yards rushing in two playoff cakewalks over the Packers and Vikings. They also average 30 points a game offensively this year which I believe was second in the NFL. The Chiefs while not shutting the run game down definitely managed it better than either the Packers or Vikings and that helped. And obviously holding them to 20 allowed Mahomes to stay within striking distance.
3) The 49ers oline did not hold up that was a contributing factor to Goropollo going from 18 of 21 passing to what happened in the middle of the 4thQ. Once the Niners went shotgun every play they opened themselves up for the pressure. The same thing happened in the 2nd Rams game. They aren’t great pass blockers straight up. Shanny messed up
4) I see you keep saying that Mahomes put up 21 but he didn’t do it by himself. The Niners on that 3rd down didn’t even cover Hill which sparked the comeback and led to the Chiefs getting to 20-17. Goff could make that throw (wink). Also the last 7 points were produced by the RB after the Chiefs forced the turnover on downs and they were trying to run out the clock. You know as I watched him run for that TD I thought to myself Todd Gurley would have fallen down inbounds rather than score and rolled my eyes. I think the Chiefs RB got it right. lol
Mahomes is great no question and to come out of that game having not played his best is the sign of a top flight competitor but contributions from his defense and run game absolutely made it possible for the Chiefs to over come the fact that he didn’t have his best game.
