"I’m a Great Believer in Luck. The Harder I Work, the More Luck I Have."
Often attribute to T Jefferson, though much debate over it.
But the point here is McVay and Snead worked harder and smarter than previous Rams braintrusts. The good luck they "fell into" is well deserved.
I think you are getting a LITTLE BIT on the "mentioning luck means dismissing something" side here. I warned folks about that.
I count it as a plus that on top of everything else, McV has good luck too.
I agreed with Sun's entire post. So no reminders about McV's top qualities needed. And plus I don't think Snead and McV worked harder than anyone else btw, I think they're just better at what they do so the work paid off more.
There are people who work hard and have BAD luck. So I don't buy the "work harder equals luckier" mantra. I like people who are GOOD, AND work hard, AND are lucky.
....
....
I know plenty of people who have had bad luck but were determined and kept working hard and became successful.
Sure, some of them were just so unlucky that they weren't able to overcome it despite being smart, working hard and being determined, but hard work and determination does count for a lot.
I don't use being unlucky as a blanket crutch for failure. But now we are getting into a philosophical discussion. I'm not ready to start quoting Hayek.
