agreed...but luck is the one factor that is beyond the realms of human control...
so, having good character, being talented and working hard - I agree - are the main factors for responding positively with luck...the good or bad kind!

Well obviously I agree with all that EXCEPT there are good people with talent and vision who work hard who can do NOTHING about bad luck sometimes.

It's not just people and their will. It's people in contexts and circumstances. And as much as it's good to maintain the positive vision, no it does not always work. If it did always work, then, human life would be a very different thing.

And of course the downside is that there are many people who have positive outlooks, great talent, perseverence, and so on, who get whammed by bad circumstances...and with the "people make their own luck" mantra, they end up being blamed. When they don't deserve it.

Human beings also have empathy and understanding, and we are better when we use it for someone like that, who just happened to be running a marathan when a bomb went off.
