If Goff were injured that'd be a tough one (AD too probably)...so that's a great example.
I'm not saying the Rams woulda made the SB with Mannion...or maybe even the playoffs...
but I bet we'd have winning record(9-7) with a very very bad QB. Cassel was 10x the QB Mannion is.
Making the best of a bad situation is a skill/talent/ability...I don't know what to call it. But it MATTERS. Cuz it sure is obvious when they don't!!! lol
I'm just saying it's in the way that a HC uses/adapts to the situation...and I trust that McVay would choose wisely. NOT that McVay tries more than anyone else or is better...but I trust that he would have the ability/talent/skill to know it when he sees it (. Certain HCs are better than others...
and I think we got one of those few.
I don't bet that.
I happen to think that Kyle Shanahan is a very good head coach too, but he began without an inherited team and had key injuries on top of it. I mean I think KS is as good a head coach as McV, it's just that it;s taking a longer time to get the team together.
Making the best of a bad situation is what every coach in the league does by instinct...or they would not even be coaches. That does not mean it always works.
The coach has to believe it and to ACT LIKE it works, but objectively from the outside, no in spite of the fact that they all do it, it does not always work.
And truth is, knock on wood, McV has faced nothing like real adversity with the Rams so far. Odds are if that DID happen, he would do all the right things and say all the right things and believe all the right things. But that does not mean it would be guaranteed to work.
....
You really think that Shanahan is as good of a HC as McVay, zn?
I don’t.
Emphasis Head Coach, not merely an Offensive mind. McVay strikes me as a complete HC from A to Z.
Shanny strikes me as a gifted Offensive mind only.
We got sooooo lucky with McVay...
