I think we have a very deep RB room ....with all different styles of talent/ability that will be fun to watch - much like our WRs diverse set of skills that have all been incorporated into McVay's offense to take advantage of what they do best.
I'm so relaxed with how the team is run for the 1st time....maybe EVER! Coaching, scouting, drafting, FO/contracts/salary cap moves, etc. I love hos the bar is set so high for this team and future teams...and that there is a well defined - "Rams Way" to how we do things...in just 3 yrs. The McVay signing was even more important than Martz signing...as McVay is a perfect HC in every area and has such an urgency about him and is only 35yrs old.
So glad the Stan recognized this and gave McVay / Snead raises - extensions to keep this braintrust intact. Ya know - we've lost/lose coaches after every season now - like the way the Pats have...and that could be devastating to a team sometimes...but it's not with us (and the Pats of course) cuz we have the same captains of the ship at the top.....and we just replace the coaches and move on.
Truly glorious times for us fans to revel in the sheer COMPETENCE of our staff/FO.
All that's true I think plus luck has been a factor (never discount that).
Examples:
* 2017 is the year the Bengals decide, enh enough of old man Whitworth
* Kromer leaves Buffalo after a little scandal there, which follows his little scandal in Chicago. For the forseeable future he's not a candidate for promotion by another team (ie. promotion either to coordinator or head coach).
* Denver decides that Wade was asking too much and figures they can live without him. Cause McV works with Wade's son, it's easy for Wade to say yes to this young green new head coach. Wade is not a candidate to move on to a head coaching gig, he's already done that a lot.
* relatively injury free. I believe they do good work to manage older players, but--dang it's not ALL good work. The Rams go from one of the most injured OLs in the league FOR YEARS (and I don't mean an injury here or there, I mean massive multiple simultaneous injuries). And when I say for YEARS this starts in 2006 and is a MAJOR factor every year except a few from then on. It's only NOT a factor in 2010, most of 2013, and 2016. That's all but 3 of 11 years. And it just...stops. Plus they have a starting caliber qb play all 16 games twice now. The last time that happened was 88-92. That's right that has not happened going back 24 years.
Now SOME folks get touchy when I point this stuff out and take it as "dismissing" McVay. Well no need for that. McV's qualities as a head coach and offensive mind are obvious.
BUT on top of all his other best qualities he is ALSO lucky. I don't want to dismiss THAT. That's a good quality to have.
What is luck? Is it a magic thing? No it's just benefitting from random chance. And. I don't knock it. Random chance benefitting the Rams? I'll take it. Lord knows as a longtime fan, I;ve seen plenty of the opposite.
