Seems silly to me. Saying Goff needs to get X yards per pass or has to have a rating of Y for the Rams to win. It's fantasy football mentality.
Goff was very good on Saturday, as he has been for the great majority of the year. 14 - 3 against the hardest schedule of any of the playoff teams.
If Cooks and Higbee catch their TD passes (which both were "drops" ) , Goff is at about 65% with two TDS, no picks, 230 yards in a game where the team ran for over 250.
He throws the ball away more than most QBs, so his percentage is low. But he makes very very few bad passes, a majority of his interceptions are Hail Marys (2), miscommunications with Reynolds (3), and deflections (2).
We all want to see long bombs, and fantasy numbers from our QB. But the criticism of Goff has been over the top, compared with other QBs of his ilk. Unless you are comparing him with the elite of the elite, in which case you should state that premise in assessing his performance.
In my eyes, Goff attempts more high degree of difficulty throws than anyone. Not physically difficult like Mahomes, but timing throws between defenders or at the sidelines down the field. Its absurd to think that our recent move to run the ball is anything more than defenses taking away one thing and opening up others. Did you see how deep the Cowboys linebackers were sitting at the snap? Throwing deep in that situation would not have been smart, regardless of whether that would have generated a higher ypc.
Go Rams
