Donald holds THE only card that matters... himself. All the other cards, hammers, levers etc. are useless if he decides not to play. And why would he? Who is advocating that he risk potentially $100 million for $7 million? $7 million is a lot of money but $93 million is more... its like from the earth to the sun more.
I would sit out. I don't understand the reasoning to do anything else. Why would anyone in AD's situation play without an extension???
No one answered why he played last year in a question I posed last week... Maybe it had something to do with the CBA last year. Pretty sure it doesn't this year as far as his right to seek a fair contract.
Not pro Donald here. I just don't understand how the "leverage/hammer" metaphor applies in this case... UNLESS the Rams just sit him until his contract is out and don't trade him.
IF I were Donald I would seek a fair contract, sign it and play for the Rams for the next 4 or 5 years. We don't know if that has even been offered yet.
Highly doubtful AD would sit out the year and make $0.00 dollars and have a chance at being part of a Super Bowl team..... unless he has some sort of insurance policy.
The Rams have the insurance policy, Suh, Talib and Peters.
Rams don't need Donald nearly as much as he needs money.
I'm not saying Donald will play without an extension this year, I'm saying he will sign an extension that is probably much closer to the Rams offer than his agents demands and play.
The leverage thing that most of the reports talks about is real...Donald would be wise to blink first.
Why did Donald cave last year? Perhaps he likes game checks?
Why is OBJ playing without a deal right now???
I haven't followed the OBJ thing. maybe coming off the injury he feels he needs to play a year to maximize his contract.... but I seriously have no idea. WR market appears to be set though so perhaps a deal can be made more easily.
I am not trying to be argumentative here but i don't understand how the leverage thing is real. I understand the dynamics but I don't understand why they matter to a player like Donald. To a player good to great player, sure I can see where that stuff works. But Donald is kind of in a class by himself. His camp can say "You don't want the best defensive player in the league? Fine. Someone will." The Rams can't say "take what we offer because no one will offer more". (both of those examples are theoretical of course but to me plausible)
He might just want to play, and that would be foolish, but he already did it last year. So if he plays this year and then gets traded next year, so be it... Might not be a bad deal for either side but not ideal either.
Suh is a good insurance policy. And I think the Rams will be fine without AD but I would LOVE to see him, Suh and Brockers scare the hell out of OC's... Add in Samson, who I think will have an impact season and the other guys on the DL.... Jeez...I like the LB's and it appears the secondary will be formidable. So the Rams, IMO, do not need Donald but I would love to see him in horns this year...
