A 2yr deal for AD at 25m/yr =
50m guaranteed....
pluses:AD - AD gets 50m for sure...and is paid at 25m which is the highest defensive player. ALSO, AD becomes a UDFA at age 29/30 and can negotiate a new deal again.
Rams - Rams get AD for 2 yrs
(where AD's happy at being paid top dollar) but not on the hook for 80m for the long term
so when AD nears the decline at age 29/30....the Rams will let him find offers or they can trade him. Kinda like how Suh is 31 now and commands 14m/15m a yr but no one has that HUGE contract hanging over the team's head anymore. Perhaps the Rams have option to pay a 3rd yr at 25m or let him become UDFA and get a 3rd comp pick for him. Or the Rams can trade him if they want more for him....I'd kinda think that they'd want more...a couple of 1sts as compensation after 2 or 3 yrs...but I dunno. 2020 is the death of the NFL. imo With a year long negotiations for a new CBA. So, I think a 2yr deal for AD would be fair since armageddon is coming to the NFL in 2020.
minuses:AD - not more money and not longer term
Rams - he's not on the roster for more than 2 yrs
...I can't think of how there are negatives to this. Players WANT to be UFA so they can max out new deals if the market bears it. They wanna gamble on themselves, which is what would do too, but the team gets to play it by shorter commitments money-wise.
I know I'm missing somethin here in my thinkin...so anyone please help me see clearer......any thots to what I propose as a happy/solid compromise?????
