KD said they want to be able to keep the young guys together. He specifically said, Goff, the OL, and the DBs. Clearly indicating that whatever Donald is asking for would preclude the Rams from doing what they want to do to keep those young guys, obviously Goff, but also guys like Hav and Peters.
It was interesting to hear KD say he discusses the contracts/money issues with Kroenke, and that Pastoors is the guy who deals day to day with the agents. Snead corroborated the contract/money management as being dealt with almost excessively by Demoff and Pastoors. Snead said he's not a math guy.
So the way I see it is that Demoff and Pastoors work the numbers and run the important stuff by Kroenke, whom I presume wants Donald signed as much as anyone. So whatever Donald is asking for it doesn't fit with the Rams long term plans.
With a cap in 2021 of around 220 M, they can keep Goff, Donald, Gurley, Cooks, Peters, and anywhere from 3-4 more depending on who it is.
So, that to me just sounded like this empty "negotiating in the press" statement.
Either that or they genuinely do not get AD's value to the team.
And given what we actually know, rather than make your key assumption in this statement, it;s equally possible to make the exact opposite assumption.
You say,
So whatever Donald is asking for it doesn't fit with the Rams long term plansWell why isn't that
So whatever they're offering Donald isn't enough but they don't appreciate his valueFor all we know either statement could be the true one. Is Donald asking too much? Is the Rams offer too low? Is it both? Is it neither?
I don't assume I know right now which it is.
But for the record back in 2002 I said it was simply not true the Rams couldn't afford London Fletcher, and that turned out to be right. I hope the way this plays out, this doesn't end up reminding me of that. And as valuable as Fletcher was to the Rams, Donald far surpasses that even.
